Sheldon

By DARLENE SHERIDAN

Rex and Judy Faubion from Washington state were visiting friends and family in the midwest, with their daughter and her five month old twins. They attended church at the Sheldon Christian Church last Sunday, after visiting with Judys family in Illinois. Their next stop was in Hawaii, to visit their newest grandchild.

The monthly Sheldon Lions Club breakfast was well attended on August 1. The Lions hold a breakfast on the first Saturday of each month where friends meet, eat and visit.

The Sheldon Christian Church held a swim party and picnic on August 2, at the Lamar Park. After many swam they were joined by more for hamburgers and hot dogs, for a pleasant evening of fellowship.

I accompanied Jim and Delores Honey of Carthage to take their grandsons, Jack and Brendan Honey, back home to Lees Summit. The boys had spent several days with their grandparents, as their parents, Jeff and Annette, were attending a high school reunion in Steamboat, Colo. We were supper guest of Delila and Bill Brown. Other guests were Deanna Rhoden, Darren and Emily Rhoden and their children, Brady and Delaney.

The Sheldon Revitalization Association met Monday evening, August 3, to discuss various projects for improvements in Sheldon.

The election on Tuesday, Aug. 4 drew a very small number of voters. The half-cent sales tax issue for 911 for Vernon County didnt pass.

The final plans for the Sheldon Picnic are falling into place. A highlight of this year will be a carnival returning to the fun and excitement of the celebration. The picnic will be August 13-15. Picnic books are now available in several businesses around Sheldon.
