LHS girls perform powerful performances at Big 8 championship

Lamar swimmer Meghan Watson took first place in the 100 yard butterfly at the Big 8 Conference Championship in Monett on January 22. She swam a blistering 1:00.51, improving on the school record she set the previous year. Her Finals time was an automatic State Qualifying Time and Watson received “First Team All-Conference” honors for that event. The sophomore also was a member of three medal-winning relays at the Conference Championship, including the 200 yard medley relay (second place), the 200 yard freestyle relay (second place) and the 400 yard freestyle relay (first place). Watson presently has earned State Consideration Times in multiple events and will be competing at State for the second year in a row.

The SW Select basketball team ended their season by winning the Kansas State Championship with a record of 21-1 in three tournaments, plus Kansas State. Lamar Democrat/Melody Metzger At the April 15 meeting of the Lamar City Council, Lamar resident Rocky McCulloch invited councilmen and the city administrator to take a tour of the pool facilities on Thursday, April 18, as Mason Banes with KC Gunite was going to do a walk through to see what repairs might entail. Several showed up to view the pools, as well as to hear possible solutions. Banes explained that he had to first find out if the damage was structural or plumbing related. Elaine McCulloch noted that hopes are to retain the outdoor lap pool and to redo the indoor pool so that it could serve as a children’s pool following the removal of the enclosure. Banes is to let the McCullochs, as well as the city, know what he would recommend and the cost it would entail.
