Lamar Democrat/Chris Morrow The Liberal Bulldogs came from the four seed to win the Class 2 District 12 Tournament at Webb City, defeating Purdy 55-37 in the first round. They then upended top seeded Pierce City 52-42. They topped Thomas Jefferson 56-50 in the title game to advance to the state sectional where they will face off with Marionville at 6 p.m. in Carthage. Here senior Dalton Hendrix shows the kind of effort the Bulldogs put on display all week as he leaps to save a ball from going out of bounds. Also shown in the background is Colten Slinker.

The SW Select basketball team ended their season by winning the Kansas State Championship with a record of 21-1 in three tournaments, plus Kansas State. Lamar Democrat/Melody Metzger At the April 15 meeting of the Lamar City Council, Lamar resident Rocky McCulloch invited councilmen and the city administrator to take a tour of the pool facilities on Thursday, April 18, as Mason Banes with KC Gunite was going to do a walk through to see what repairs might entail. Several showed up to view the pools, as well as to hear possible solutions. Banes explained that he had to first find out if the damage was structural or plumbing related. Elaine McCulloch noted that hopes are to retain the outdoor lap pool and to redo the indoor pool so that it could serve as a children’s pool following the removal of the enclosure. Banes is to let the McCullochs, as well as the city, know what he would recommend and the cost it would entail.
