The Lamar TigerSharks hosted their home meet at the Lamar Aquatic Park on June 15 and 16. Twelve teams from across the Tri-State Conference participated in the swim competition. The host team won the Second Place Team Trophy. High Point Trophy winners for the TigerSharks included Kai Lilienkamp (6 & Under Boys), second place overall; Cameron Bailey (13-14 Boys), third place overall; Zane Reavley (15-18 Boys), first place overall; Meghan Watson (15-18 Girls), second place overall and Kaitlyn Davis (15-18 Girls), third place overall.
Lamar TigerSharks host home invitational
TigerSharks Meghan Watson and Kaitlyn Davis tied for the 15-18 Girls High Point Trophy at the Evan Thomas Swim Invitational in Siloam Springs, Ark., on June 8. Watson won the 200 yard IM, 50 yard butterfly and 100 yard freestyle, while Davis took first in the 200 yard freestyle, 50 yard backstroke and 50 yard breaststroke.

The Arma Bulldogs, made up of players from Liberal, Missouri and Arma, Kan., and chartered within the Babe Ruth organization, won the Babe Ruth Softball 10 and under division of the Kansas State Tournament last weekend, held in Cottonwood Falls, Kan. The Bulldogs defeated Hillsboro 3-1, Little Sunflower 8-5 and the host 13-2. They advanced to the championship game, once again playing Hillsboro. They won the contest 12-4, earning the title of state champs. This is the first Arma Bulldogs softball or baseball team to earn a state title in the Babe Ruth tournament. Following each game a SHE (Sportsmanship, Hustle and Enthusiasm) Award was presented to an individual from each team. Award winners from Arma included Ciara Neville, Braylen Frieden and Erin Doubledee. The Bulldogs will join other state winners in the Midwest Plains Region (Missouri, Iowa, Minnesota, Colorado, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Manitoba and Saskatchewan) in the Regional tournament this weekend in Girard, Kan. The first and second place teams will advance to the 10 and under World Series in Jensen Beach, Fla., July 25 through August 3. Third Annual Refuel set for July 27
Lamar Democrat/Melody Metzger Paul W. Bass, a retired educator and minister from Willard, held a book signing for his two books, “Missouri Innovators - Famous (and Infamous) Missourians Who Led the Way in Their Field” and “The History of Fort Leonard Wood Missouri”, at the Mary K. Finley Library in Lamar, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., on Saturday, July 13. Since penning the book on Missouri innovators, Bass has been asked to do Kentucky, which is now being edited, as well as Oklahoma, Kansas and Arkansas. Copies of the two books that Bass was promoting can be checked out at the library.
