DOROTHY L. FRANKLIN

BAXTER SPRINGS, Kan.-A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Girard Cemetery's Pavilion for Dorothy L. Franklin, 88, Girard, who died at 4 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2015, at Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg. The body has been cremated, under the direction of Derfelt's Baxter Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, in care of Derfelt Funeral Home, 328 E. 12th St., Baxter Springs, KS 66713.

Survivors include a daughter, Nancy Burns and husband Richard, Girard; a sister, Dolly Franklin, Girard; two grandchildren, Heather Burns-Crawford, Lamar and the late Jeremy Crawford and Chuck Burns and wife Carma, Arma and five great-grandchildren, Cierra, Keegan, Connor, Michael and Breeanna.

Mrs. Franklin was born March 14, 1927, in Mulberry, to Jonas Albert and Lola Ethel (Harper) Elliot. She resided in the Girard area all of her life, except a period of time when she resided in Wichita from 1953-1966. She worked at dime stores as a cashier before retiring in 1968, but her full time job was being a wife, mom and grandma. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Girard.

She married Charles Franklin on July 25, 1949, in Girard. He died in 2000.
