LAMAR- Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Daniel Funeral Home for William “Bill” Jefferson Sprawls II, 92, Lamar, who died Sunday, May 5, 2019, at his home. Burial will follow in Lockwood Cemetery.

There will not be a formal visitation, but friends may pay their respects staring at 12 noon on Wednesday, at the funeral home.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Betty Sprawls; a son, William Jefferson “Jeff” Sprawls III, and wife Marta, Carthage; two daughters, Jane Anne McComas, Lamar and Linda Schilling and husband Errly, Lockwood; eight grandchildren, Brice Schilling, Lane Bucane, Forrest Terry, Stephanie Martinez, Tim Kivett, Katie Kivett, Aleisa Tiegs and Kerenza Collins and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, William D. Whitley; a sister, Johnie McDowell and a son-in-law, Bill McComas.

Mr. Sprawls was born Sept. 30, 1926, in Bienville, La., to William Jefferson Sprawls I and Bertha (Jennings). He left high school at the age of 17 and joined the U.S. Navy to serve his country during World War II. After the war ended he returned to school and graduated from Bienville High School.

He married Betty Jo Brice in Arcadia, La., in October of 1952.

He worked as a farmer and a rancher, was a member of the Quarter Horse Association and a member of Lamar First Baptist Church.
