SPRING VALLEY, Minn.-Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Spring Valley for Richard D. Oeltjen, 80, formerly of Spring Valley, who died Saturday, Aug. 15, 2015, at Cottagewood in Rochester. Rev. Betsy Dartt will officiate. Burial will be in Grand Meadow Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hindt Funeral Home in Spring Valley.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home.

Survivors include his wife, Joya Oeltjen, Rochester; two sons, Richard Oeltjen Jr. and wife Darla, Phoenix, Ariz. and Troy Oeltjen and wife Lisa, Rochester; three daughters, Teresa Feller and husband Dean, Shakopee, Diane Maxson and husband Eric, Pine Island and Wendy Rollie, Plainview; two stepdaughters, Dawn Morse and husband Jeff, Racine and Jill Mehrkens and husband Bruce, Wabasha; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three sisters, Ruth, Marylou and Darla and six brothers, Albert, Laverne, Rhieny, Melvin, Donald and Ernest.

He was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters.

Mr. Oeltjen was born Jan. 26, 1935, in Grand Meadow, to William and Anna (Pantze) Oeltjen. He attended school through the eighth grade and joined the United States Army, serving from 1959 through 1961. He worked in maintenance for the Land O'Lakes Creamery for almost 35 years and later worked for Zeimetz Motors in Spring Valley for approximately 10 years. He enjoyed spending time in his garage, tinkering on cars, tractors and lawn mowers. He was able to fix anything mechanical.

He married Barbara Farnsworth and they were later divorced. He was later united in marriage to Joya Loucks on Aug. 20, 1983, at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Spring Valley.
