Arson fires plague Liberal

Lamar Democrat/Chris Morrow A rash of arson fires has plagued the north end of Denton and Main Streets in Liberal, going back to early July. Friday night members of the Liberal Volunteer Fire Department fought a blaze at 205 N. Denton. In July the house across the street was torched as well. In all, five fires have decimated empty structures, two were outbuildings and three were vacant homes. No one has been injured in the fires. All the fires have occurred at night. The Barton County Sheriff's Department, Liberal Police Department and investigators from the Missouri State Fire Marshal's office have been investigating. An update into the progress of said investigations was not available at press time. Look to next week's Democrat for more details.
