LIBERAL-Services were held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Oakton United Methodist Church for Rodney Overman, 76, Liberal, who died Monday, July 18, 2016, at Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg, Kan.

Arrangements were under the direction of Konantz Warden Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to D.O.G.S. Foundation Scholarship Fund or Nashville Cemetery, in care of the funeral home.

Survivors include his wife, Rose Ann Overman; one son, Howard Overman and wife Tracy; one daughter, Shellie Blevins and three grandchildren, Taylor Overman and wife Brooke, Brandon Overman and Ashley Cole and husband Jakeob.

Mr. Overman was born March 11, 1940, in Lamar, to William Glen and Crystal Anna (Royer) Overman. He was a member of the Nashville United Methodist Church. He graduated Liberal High School in 1958. He loved farming and was always open to new innovative farming practices. He was the first to try double cropping in the area. He was very active in the farming community and was a member of Lamar Young Farmers and made many friends tractor pulling, as well as good memories with his son Howard. He was a Cargill Seed dealer for over 40 years and was on the board for Farm Bureau, Nashville Township and Nashville Cemetery. He was a member of the Lions Club.

Mr. Overman enjoyed music and dancing the 2-step with his wife. During his stay at Via Christi Village, he was very active and was involved in all the activities. He volunteered as a reading mentor in Pittsburg schools and the students were very fond of him as they learned to read with his help. Through all of his life he never met a stranger and made friends everywhere he traveled.

He married Rose Ann Smith on Oct. 2, 1960, at the Nashville Christian Church.
